Puma kills provide food for many freeloaders – I mean scavengers, including eagles! Scientists from the Craighead Beringia South and Panthera have captured some fun footage of bald eagles fighting over a meal provided by their friendly, neighborhood puma.
While pumas are obviously not interested in sharing food with other local carnivores, they cannot always prevent scavengers from stealing their food. These kill sites are important food sources for animals ranging from insects to grizzly bears for days to even weeks. When there is no other food around, finding an animal killed by a puma or a wolf pack can mean the difference between life and death for smaller scavengers and is definitely worth fighting for.
